Light Painting
History
The word "Photography", comes from the Greek words, Phos(light,), and graphis(stylus, paintbrush), or graphi and together they mean "drawing with light". Light painting, more known as light drawing goes back to 1889 when Étienne-Jules Marey and Georges Demeny created the first light painting called "Pathological Walk From in Front". The Japanese team, TOCHKA have gained popularity by creating Light Painting team of LAPP-PRO. What is Light Painting?
Light painting is a photographic technique, where exposers are made by moving a hand-held light source or by moving the camera. |
Here is a short video on light painting, that I have found.

Here are some images that we took in class. Some images we really thought about, and how we was going to compose it but, some images we didn't really think about, and experimented with different settings and compositions.
The settings used in these images, well some of them, was F10 but, some images we turned it down and changed it to about F4. |

In groups of around 9, we all had another attempt at light painting. It was a exciting and fun opportunity and we all had fun.
First of all, the dial has to be on M and then change the other dial for seconds. Press the arrow to the right to change the appeture/setting. After, change the ISO to 100 (to start off with). We started off with F4.5, as a starter, and then eventually made it higher to F8 and F10, ect. This is one of my favourite images, and I think it's also one of the successful images. I like the movement that's happening in this image, and the use of light paining, with movements and light painting happening in one image, it makes everything more exciting. We flashed the torch about five times, and the outcome was not that bad. This is because, there was four of us in the image, and you can only see about three. So if we were to re-take this photograph, then we would try to have all four people in the photograph.

I think that this is one of the most un-successful image. This is because, there was too much light in one image, we used the flash and the light painting stick. With too much light, the image didn't work well, and turned out quite bad. The flash was on for 5 times, and with the light painting stick on top of it, the outcome turned out too bright and dramatic.

We got set homework, over the spring break, the task was to take 30 photographs that represent you, this could have been your favourite album, room, friends, clothing, ect.
I have taken a series of images, to what I think represents me: music, magazines, social network sites, movies, tv shows, favourite accessories, and a collection of receipts, bills and tags. |
